What gauge wire should I run from Ign. Sw. to pos side of coil on a GM 12 volt 10SI alternator converted 8n? And should there be any kind of ballast resistor in line? I believe it is a 12volt coil, if it's not, I will make it so. I do not want to cook anything in the original distributor. Also, is there any reason other than radio noise suppression that I found a condenser cobbled from input side of coil to a ground on engine? Oh the joys of a $600 dollar 8N! Thanks to all you guys.

Phipps..... ...for ignition switch wiring, use 14ga stranded. Simple, eh?

For the 5-nipple sidemount distributor, we recommend a real 12-volt roundcan coil like the NAPA IC14-SB that uses NO resistor.

There are NO components of the sidemount ignition system that are 12-volt sensitive. Condenser is good fer 200-volts.

Now iff'n yer ignititon system is the 4-nipple frontmount, different rules apply, but I'm assuming (dangerous I know) its a 5-nipple sidemount.

As fer yer cobbled by-pass coil condenser, gitt ridd of it. And iff'n yer ignition system is disturbing yer MP3 player, pull yer budds. (grin)..... ....Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Believe me, the only music I want to hear is that tractor plowing snow...we have 2 feet of it here in Colorado's west slope. My shovel is not cutting it any more. MP3...to me that means More Plowing 3 days worth!

14 gauge is just fine. Now as far as the rest you need ti fill in a few gaps. Is it a front mount or side mount distributor?? Makes a big difference since a 12 volt coil for one works with out ballast resisters and the other doesn't. Side mount you can get by with out a resister but front you can't

Ok no resister needed if you get a true 12 volt coil.
