Starter switch question

I finally have my '49 8N running (HUGE thanks to everyone for helping me out with that) and have discovered my starter switch needs replacing. When I push the button nothing happens, but when I ground out the lead to the switch it engages the starter as it should.

When replacing this do I have to remove the entire plate over the transmission, or is it something that I can unscrew from the top side?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks, Dunk. I went out and tried turning the switch while pressing it and lo and behold it worked! You saved me money, time, and headache -- THANKS!

Plus, I can always consider it an anti-theft started switch...

You need to take the cover off.

Be very careful, taking the cover off, there is a spring at the rear of the cover that will try to pull a disappearing act on you.

Mine has been been a little picky for years, I just press it down and turn it a tad and it cranks still.
