I have 5 gallons of Spectrum Corp. hydraulic and transmission fluid HY0505. Ford spec. ESN-M2C 134A. IH spec. Hy-Tran and several others listed. Is this OK in a 49 8N? David.

Henry said "use gear oil". 80-90 wt. That's what I do. Year round. No problems.

Thanks Bob. I do have one leaky axle seal, the lift leaks down slowly, but the hydraulic pump works fine. The fluid in it now is thin but milky. I'm going to do it. David.

YES, if you want the modern thin oil, instead of 90-weight gear oil.

It's apparently UTF-"universal tractor fluid" meeting Ford "134" specs, amongst others.

Thin oil = better in COLD weather.

90-weight oil = Better in HOT weather, ESPECIALLY for less than 100% mechanically-perfect tractors that have leaky axle seals, a leaky lift piston assembly, or a weak hydrauliuc pump.

I had a Ford 981 a few years ago and "assumed" the hydraulic oil had never been changed in it's life. Never leaked until I put 134 in and then 2 leaks showed up and never could get them to stop. Was lazy though and didn't want to split the rear end to put new gaskets, etc. in.

134 thins badly when hot.my 600 has a worn vane pump. The tractor can pick a 12 inch 12 foot ash log in 30 degree weather. It cant lift 3 bales of hay in hot weather.I run gear oil in the rear axle, cant see this thin oil on the ring and pinion.
