Ferguson bogs down when finish mowing

First, I'm posting this here because I've come to greatly respect the collective know-how represented by those who read this, and due to the similarities of the N-series and my Ferguson TO-30.

My problem: When using my 5' finish mower for 15 or 20 minutes, I can feel the engine lose power, then it will begin to miss a bit and cut out, particularly if I'm coming uphill. After reading some of the archives, I've found that if I "blip" the choke closed momentarily, the engine smooths back out and runs like a champ for another 10 or 15 minutes.

This looks like a fuel delivery problem (yes, there's some in the tank!), but I'm not sure where to begin. Any suggestions???

Thanks!

OldKyJim

What is finish mowing? I have 10 acres and it seems I never finish mowing, its always time to start over after I make it around the trees and up and down the hills! Hey! is this some kind of sick new winter olympic event? And how to you get the Finns to be mowed? Just a thought! maybe you should ask Dell(Wa), I hope he helps with the posting I ask today about the Identity of my N series tractor he seems to know his fertilizer (no slight intended to the rest of you, your replys seem pretty good too!).

Another thing to check. I've had to replace the felt washer used to seal the throttle arm on my 2N. It's located behind a metal seal that the throttle rod protrudes through. I found my fuel/air mixture wasn't being delivered properly while putting the N under load. This helped. I went ahead and gave the carb an overhaul while I was at it. I know it would be low on the list of probable causes, but it's one more thing you can check anyway.

Best of luck..... .Tommy(MO)

Sure.

Check that the tank is venting properly. Then check and clean the fuel filter inside the tank (on top of the fuel tap) and the screen above the sediment bowl. Remove the fuel line and make sure it is clear. I think (can't recall for sure) that the TOs have a fuel filter in the elbow where the fuel line enters the carb, remove that and clean it. Failing that, you need to be looking at the float level inside the carb, and to be sure that the fuel line is routed well clear of the hot engine to eliminate vapor lock.

llater,
