I recently purchased this 600. I started it the other day with the throttle in the idle position and full choke. With the throttle open it would not even fire. So now running with the choke out all the time, and runs good that way but... So before I pull the carb off for cleaning should I try adjusting? Are the adjustments the same as my 8N ?

You said Zenith, so I am running a bit out of my league... But..

It does come with the kit from this site.

That lookes like the one ! I should order, but I kinda need to get er goin' today and move this snow outa here. Seems the last two storms we got had a lot of wind and those snow drifts are HARD and I can walk right up on them. And the 8N with back blade isn't working well , so I figered get the loader tractor workin' and use that.

You may be on to something there, that gasket is fairly thick, and provides the carb with some insulation from the heat of the manifold.

I couda got NAPA to order a kit and woulda had it tomorrow if I woulda told them sooner . But I don't think a kit comes with that thick gasket either, and the jet didn't come with so I didn't order

The best thing you can do for any carb is to take it all to pieces and blow out every hole, and orifice in with an air compressor, with a rubber tipped blow gun nozzle.

If they won't blow thru, then rod them out with some fine stiff wire.

An overnight soak in carb cleaner might help loosen any gunk for easier cleaning.

Pinch you off a piece of copper wire at an angle, with some dull wire cutters, and drill it out.

Well I got another Idea , the gasket between the carb and the manifold was homemade outa thin gasket paper. And if it was TOO THIN maybe the studs would butt up against the manifold and not let me get a tight seal.

Pulling out the choke gives you a richer mixture. So, you could have either a fuel or spark problem.

On my 1950 frontmount, needing choke to run is the first sign that the points need adjusting/replacing.

Old plug wires can cause the same problem.

A carb out of adjustment will also cause this problem; have you been fooling w/ the main jet adjustment lately? Put it back at 1 1/2 turns out & leave it alone.

Restricted fuel flow can cause this problem; remove the bolt at the bottom of the carb & check for flow.

And, finally, a vacuum leak can do the same thing. Get a can of WD40 and carefully spray it around the intake manifold of the tractor while it is running. If it speeds up, you found the leak.

Please be sure to post back & let us know what the fix was. We all learn something if you tell us what worked!

The tractor had this problem when I bought it. I havn't messed with the adj. screws but the other guy may have. And there was tape wraped around the choke rod to keep it from going all the way in (open) so they been runnin er that way. So far I've disasembled the carb and found the high speed jet to be plugged. I got it cleared up and can see light through it, so put back together and runs the same DERN IT!!

Needs choke to run smooth -- symptoms of too lean a mixture or vacuum leak or weak spark.

Oh it's a Zenith carb, and I can see some rust in the sediment bowl, makes me think the carb is plugged. Was hoping for a quick fix caus I need to move snow

Back when we had our dealership, we never would install the Zenith in the shop. When we did at first, it was generally an issue later on. I believe that it is better to rebuild the old MS carbs.

You can google "New Holland dealers". Put in your town, state, zip and it will give you the nearest dealer location.
