Questions about radiator

Hi folks, I was thinking about using one of those inexpensive aftermarket 8N/2N/9N radiators you see on ebay in a custom application (an old Willys Jeep). My question for you guys is this: can standard automotive caps be used on these like the ones you can get from NAPA? Also, I presume the sides of these are steel so it would be no trouble welding brackets onto them? Replacement radiators for old Willys are getting prohibitively expensive so I though something that looked about the same vintage would be better than nothing. Have no fear fellows, I would never dream of using a NOS or original Ford radiator for this, just one of those aftermarket makes (e.g. Clancy brand).

Thank you for your time, Philip

You could also weld up an angle iron frame and then 'mount' the radiatr to that fram using the lower bolt holes, again.. using top hose to stabilize tank.. etc... that would minimize risk of thermal damage from welding..

Philip, What Bob said, I second. These Clancy radiators are built like they could go in a army tank and outlast the tank. I bought one at Tractor Supply for $229.00 last year because I was worried about having one shipped to me. After seeing the box they come in I would not worry about having it shipped. Get one of those cheaper ones off like ebay or something. Those ebay guys can sell em cheap because they sell so many of them. I'd use one in a Jeep for sure.

Main thing is most ebayers STEAL so much on shipping.

That should work. You'll have to take it a little easy with the welder so as not to generate enough heat while welding to the steel side to make any solder joints come loose in the core or tanks.

A common automotive pressure cap WILL fit, in place of the flying do-dad cap used on the tractors.

Bob I don't think they will,,, my slant pressure tester will not werk on a N rad,,,the neck is rite much deeper,,, I have to use a bladder type to pressurize the system,,, Iffin it were me I would look for a rad from advance auto or auto zone,,, comes wif a lifetime warranty,,, shy away form a $129 n radiator cuss they taint worth a chit,,, boys better buckle up,,, rad prices have went thru the roof,,, soon as the stock has depleted and sellers find out they can not replace their stock fer what thay sold'em fer price will jump,,, myself and i spec you are gonna buy a radiator we can rub on fer I pay up,,, iffin it leaks with in a year I wanna look ya in the eye when i bring it back...

All the radiator shops around here are gone,,, EPA came thru here 15 years ago and run'em off,,, all but one,,, he findley closed down,,, land and building were worth more dead than alive,,, course he can git a n radiator cap and knock the flying do-dad off,,, or iffin it was me git a GN cross flow and stand it on its end
