I just got an 8N tractor and have a few problems
that I need help from the experts.First the stud
on the starter looks like it was stripped the battery wire lug is on the lug without the nut.
Question can I re thred the stud with a die, what
size die would I need.Second it takes awhile to get it started and then it takes full choke, and it wants to quite under a load, trying to drive.
What do you think might be the problem? Thanks for any help.

It is important for you to tell us if your tractor has a 6 volt or 12 volt electrical system & if the distributor is on the front of the engine or on the side. The troubleshooting is different based upon the configuration of your engine.

If you just got it, my bet is that it is long overdue for a tune up; points, plugs, condenser & rotor. Maybe a cap as well.

Post back w/ more info & you will get plenty of help.

Had the stripped bolt on a MH 33 not long ago and I used a die to tread it to 7mm and all is well not. The other and correct way would be to have that stud replaced at a rebuild shop. Most common people don't have the tools need to replace them because they are soldered on and it takes a big iron to do that type of work
