i want to put hydraulics on my 8n can u drive a pump off of the engine or should i go with a pto pump

With a little ingenuity and some plumbing you can share the tractor's internal reservoir with an external pump. With a bit more plumbing you can get live hydraulics as well.

I make a kit to give the three point hitch live hydraulics and it can also be used to power remote hydraulic devices.
My set up uses a belt driven pump that is driven off the regular fan belt. Plenty of pressure.

I would go with the front mounted crankshaft driven pump. You will have hydraulics anytime the engine runs. with the PTO pump when you push down on the clutch petal you loose your hydraulics. Post more details on what you want to accomplish with the hydraulic system. Then some senseable calculations can be made as what size pump, etc you need. J.

I just want to run my dump trailer and someday a wood splitter I just hate the thoughts of having that bigh resivoir mounted on my front bumper any ideas as to how i can conceal an oil tank better than that

Adam....just a thought....you could run the dump trailer off the tractor's test port, like the Fergies do....then get a self-powered log splitter for near the same cost as the parts for a tractor pump & splitter.
