i have a 8n which up to yesterday the clutch was operating correctly, 2 things happened, the clutch adjusting rod broke so i did a temporary fix by getting a nut and grinding the sides down a little bit and used it as a coupler which it worked out ok, but now the clutch pedal does not return after being pressed down, is it time to split the case?? any information would great.

i took apart the coupler nut on the adjusting rod that broke and welded a new bolt to it, put it back in and now it shifts fine.

Have you disconnected the rod to see what it will do when operated by hand? Hard to pull the lever by hand but it can be done.

yes i did it does the same thing as when it is hooked up, i also sprayed a couple of cans of brake cleaner as some of the other discussions suggested to do, along with driving the tractor, any way it is looking like it might be time to tear it down, thanks

You hadn't hit anything (like a stump) and bent the clutch lever that comes out of the clutch housing have you?? Slight bend will stop the whole show....
