Hi all! I am now a proud owner of a 1947 2n recently and I have my first need for advice.

There seems to be a not so complicated mechanism in front of the actual "starter switch" that creates a neutral safety. The button that resembles a high beam switch in a ford truck is just above the shifter is the culprit of my problems. It threads out and reveals a shaft with a split ring keeper and a washer that puts pressure on the pivot that redirects pressure to the actual switch.

The groove in the shaft is worn out and the keeper is slipping up the shaft with the washer in pursuit (sounds like mutiny) and it won't push the starter button.

What is this shaft called and where can I get a new one?

I had the same problem & got lucky finding a used one from John Smith. Here is a link to his site, you will need to send him an email asking if he has another one.

It seems the previous owner jiggled the stick better than I can. Much rather have a result than jiggling around.

If I can't get a new part, have any of you had any experiance fixin them? I have a couple of ideas in mind, one of which seem to be easy enough.

Pinch..... ..ah yes, the starter "jiggle-stick" scheme.

According to my N-Parts MPC, the p/n: 9N-11512, rod, (starter push) is operated by the 90deg turning fork; p/n: 9N-11515, lever, (starter push) which is operated by the dash mounted pushbutton p/n: 9N-11506, button assy (starter push). None of these parts are still available that I know about. Tractor boneyards is yer only hope.

Howsomevers, ain't no law sez you can't fixx'em yer selves..... ..Dell

Take this question over to the ntractor board . There's alot of knowledge there for the Ns .Go to the internet & type in ntractor , then add the word club then dotcom .This board has a filter that won't allow any other websites thru .There seems to be alot of discussion on the 39 ns there . HTH ! God bless, Ken
