I was talking about using the GL 1 up here in the frozen north country and how slow the hydraulics are when it is 10 below zero.

He told me he has used ATF at times with no problems? Ever hear of this one before---appreciate any comments as I value your opinion as much as his.

I have no reason to ever want to try this, but when plowing snow with a front mount blade when extremely cold, I have often wished the hydraulics would work a bit faster.

Thanks, Tim

Why wouldn't you just use something like an SAE 75W90 gear oil if you want better cold temperature performance?

many people use UTF.. ATF is pretty thin.. like 10w.. i don't think I'd use it...

I agree with Hobo on the Lucase addative.. etc.

I have personally never used stp in my transmission but make sure u pull all 3 plugs and get the oil warm in the trans before so it gets all the junk out. Run the tractor for a while and then change it. It is good on a nice warm day.

Are you aware that it has a common sump for the hydraulic pump, rear end & the transmission? My bet is the STP won't do your pump any good. See tips 3 & 4 below for info on fluid changes.
