I am rebuilding the engine in a newly acquired 1940 9n. I noticed that the rod bearings are starting to show alittle brass color through so I would like to change them out. I have measured the main and journals but I dont know how to get the correct size bearings to order. all my journals measure between 2.083 and 2.085. the main bearings measure 2.245 accross the board.

Also my oil pump is nice and tight but the suction tube is loose and can be taken off easily. Is there a way to fix this?

Ok the origional specs are what I was missing in this. I understand now. I will contact my local machinist shop. This is my first teardown and rebuild on a motor besides motorcycle motors. The only thing I'm concerned about is getting the crank shaft and cam shaft timed properly. I think I understand that there are marks on each one and I need to match them up when putting back together. Then rotate the engine to make sure it is timed properly with the valves lifting at the appropriate times before full assembly. Bought this tractor for $500. It turned over but no spark. I figured I would do a rebuild so I understand the whole mechanics of the tractor.

Oh i forgot, and your oil pump pick up tube can be brazed or silver soldier to the pump and the screen can.But you must make sure it in the right place before welding it. Also remove the plate from the oil pump to weld it once in place.

Antnee,Standard main journal size is 2.248-2.249.Standard rod journal size is 2.094.It looks like your mains were standard and the rods were.010 under.Best have your crank turned .010&.020.especially if its a little rough.
