I'm taking off the timing gear cover of my 8N. I have taken all of the bolts out...including the 2 "hidden" lower ones. I have the cover free but can't get it past the front belt pulley. Does this pulley need to be removed? And if it does, how do you hold on to the pulley to unloosen the nut? I tried with a socket on the pulley nut and think that I'm just turning the internal engine parts when I try to unloosen it.

Please remember my user name has "rookie" in it. 8^)

Yes you need to remove the pulley.

The easiest way to remove the bolt is with an impact wrench.

Others reccomend removing a spark plug, and putting an amount of small rope in the hole, leaving some hanging out to remove it with.

That will stop the engine from turning.

Thanks Dunk,

After the 3rd time trying to get as much rope in there as possible - the rope worked!
