This is not the normal oil in water thats exceptable according to the owner, it's thick goo. He said it ran hot & blew a hose & now is coming in from somwhere. Is it possible he just blew the head gasket or cracked the head? I guess cracked block would normally be the culprit but wouldn't expect overheating to do that as much as freezing would.

He's wanting me to look at it but I'm not taking the entire engine apart for him!

I ain't no MECH., but.... if it were me, I would first check the outside of the block, for cracks. Especially around the lft. side, in the block drain cock area.

Then I would pull the water pump, and chk. it real good, making sure it is not jammed up or the fins broken/worn.

Then pull the head. Cause if it got hot enough to blow a water hose, I suspect a blown head gasket or/and possible crack/cracks, some where in the water jacket. You will want to pull the head anyway, no matter what caused it, to inspect it!!!!! ! :(
If it were me , that is as deep into it as I would go. If it was caused by any of this, it should go to a proper MECH. for repairs. MAJOR pain for ya!!!!! !

I didn't even think to say, yea it's a 50 N he thinks. I haven't got all the details on it yet. He saw mine yesterday & was wondering if I could work on his. We don't usually get a lot of super cold days around here for long periods but it still could have froze. Maybe it froze & the overheating opened a crack up more?

I hadn't thought about the water pump possibility.

jon;

If it has enough water in it, to turn the oil to goo, I would say it is time to pull the head and check the head gasket, around the water jacket ports. But if it has been cold enough to freeze, where the engine is out in the cold, and wind, I would say very possible to have cracked the water jacket on the inside.

Has he/did he have antifreeze in the rad.?????

Possible also that, the water pump failed and blew the head gasket!!!!!
Is he using a thermostat??
What kind of tractor is this anyway, An "N"????? ???

Gary :roll: :?: :?:
