I have a 8n with the flat head 6 funk conversion. The starter is bad and the system has been converted to 12 volt. How do I get a starter? Do i get a six volt starter for the flat head six industrial engine or is there a 12 volt starter for the flat head six

Find a local repair shop (good idea to shop around) and have your unit rebuilt.

I got a new bendix for mine at a starter shop in Tulsa OK about 3 years ago. They said they rebuild them, rewind them, etc. He had several old one's laying around.

While the starter is off, check the ring gear teeth through the hole. Best to have someone else turn the engine over while you look. Also check to see if the ring gear has gotten 'canted' on the flywheel. If one side gets canted enough, that can cause the bendix gear to not hit the teeth at that location. I had mine spot welded in 6 evenly spaced places around the ring gear.

I have wondered where a man could get a starter for a funk if they broke one . This one might work ????

All the old starters I see suck in the bendix instead of pushing it in .

Ken..... ...yep, good replacement starter, POWERFUL Denso gear reduction drive. They used to advertise on Ebay for N-Tractor starter replacements too. Also for 6-cyl flatheads as used in Funks. I'd lost their bookmark in one of my computer crashes, but remembered they were some weird Michigan address..... ..Dell
