Just picked this one up for $700. http://www.linearrow.com/main/ford8n

Decent deal? The grill peice is is upside down behind the bumper but in good shape.

No battery but I'm told it was parked in running condition when the family bought their next tractor. It's been retired for decades and sitting for at least 5 years...All the controls work smoothly but yet not sloppy. The foot pedals show minimal wear. Paint is either original or was redone by a pro at some point. All the fluids are reasonably clean w/no cross contamination. If it's functional I'm going "refurbish" it. If it's got a major problem I'll prolly part it out.

Tried to reply to this last night. Had it all written but the forum lost it into cyberspace.
Grrr.
You got yourself a bargain.
I love bargains. Having a place like YT that you can share your find with others of like mind makes it all the better.
Observations:
It will be interesting to know if it is in fact original pain or a redo.
If you are going to use the tractor I would consider putting new tires on it. The ones you have look good and would sell easily (hint hint)but will deteriorate rapidly if you work them.
Home made/aftermarket grill guard looks plenty stout and is not bad looking either.
It's interesting to see the surface rust even on the steering wheel. What part of the country are you in? Must be humid.
Two pictures of that triple top rocker?
You must have been proud of that. grin
Good luck with it and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks to all for helping me through the buyers-remorse phase. I'm excited about it...got a trailer and access to the barn lined up for this Sunday. I'll be sure to follow the first start advice and be thankful when it busts-off. I'm not gonna run it into the ground...and I plan to keep it all original if I can help it(6v/original color-scheme and decals.)

Sounds like a great barn find for $700, Randy.

My email is open if you stumble upon a Duesenberg in one of those barns.

Looks like a real good deal! Because it hasn't run in so long, I wouldn't try to start it up right away. Pull all plugs, add a tablespoon or so of ATF or MMO in each cylinder. Pull both valve covers & soak everything w/ MMO or ATF. Remove the 15/16 hex nut to the right of the water pump. This is where your oil gallery is for the valves/lifters is. Don't lose the little spring under the nut. Use an oil squirt can to put about a cup of oil in here. Replace the spring & nut. Wait at least 2 or 3 days before you do anything, then try & hand crank the engine. (w/o spark plugs) If it does not turn by hand, repeat everything you just did, ie, more MMO or ATF. Once you get it to turn by hand, then change all the fluids (check tips 3 & 4 for info on the tranny/pump/rear end fluid change)

Fluids include oil & filter, oil in the air cleaner, and 50/50 water & antifreeze. Grease all fittings. Replace the points, plugs, condenser, rotor & cap. If the wires are cracked & frayed, replace them as well, or you will spend days trying to find that one short. Clean all connections bright & shiny. Clean the fuel screens in the carb & sediment bowl. Spray the carb good w/ carb cleaner. (Some people can get a carb to work like this after setting for years. Some people win the lottery. I have never got away w/ an old carb working; plan on a rebuild). Flush the gas tank w/ MMO. Add at least two gallons of fresh gas & make sure you have a good flow by removing the bolt at the bottom of the carb. Keep some starting fluid handy. Once you get it running, just let it idle for a 1/2 hour or so. Good luck & check back!
