Hi guys, I did rope seals and am putting my factory pulley back on. I marked the nose of the crank an the pulley where the key way are located. The question is did the key really go into the pulley when i drove it on? I do not want the slinger to be flopping around! Can anyone give me a measurement of how deep the end of the crankshaft should be from the edge of the pulley where the bolt seats? Thanks for any info. or help.

Throw ya a quickie gotta run,,, when the pulley is all the way up you will have less than 1/8" from the back of the pulley to the top flange of the timing cover,,, if you have a 1/4' ya missed it

nutter quick check is to use a long round bar sorta like a 1/2" extension,,, clamp or lay in the crank pulley V grove and aligned with the water pump pulley,,, should B close

Your in luck - I just happen to have my block on a stand in my garage and have not installed the pulley yet. From the tip of the crank to butting up against the slinger is exactly 1 9/16". A measurement of the length of the inside bore on my stock pulley also measures exactly 1 9/16" telling me the pulley just snugs up to the oil slinger when fully seated.

HTH,
Dan

Oil/Grease down the outside of the pulley, slowly slide it in until it bottoms out wiggling as you slide it in to reduce any damage to the rope seal, then turn the pulley while pressing inward until the slot lines up with the woodruff key and seats. Make sure the slot in your pulley is not damaged, and lightly file any burrs off with a flat file. Hobo camfers the edges to make lining up with the woodruff key easier. The end of the pulley should be flush with the end of the crank shaft when seated correctly.
