Cleaning out the block with vinegar

I started to change the radiator hoses due to a small leak and when I opened up the block drain, nothing came out till I ran some wire in there to loosen the junk behind to petcock. There was lots of greasy looking gunk (maybe bars leaks from a prior owner) and rust particles. I have had no other issues with oil in the antifreeze or antifreeze in the oil

My plan is to fill the radiator and block with vinegar and run it just to warm, and then let it sit for a few days before a final flush with clean water and re-fill with anti freeze. Does anyone see any problems with this?
Thanks in advance for all the top notch advice I anticipate with this.

Properties of Vinegar - Freezing Point of Vinegar

The freezing point of vinegar, like the pH and density, depends on how much acetic acid is present.

A typical commercial vinegar with a 5% acetic acid content will have a freezing point of about -2 degrees Celsius (28 F).

Thanks for all the pointers, especially the one about freezing. I forgot to consider that & will only keep it in overnight, it's not supposed to get all that cold here so I will flush tomorrow.

Don't know about letting it sit a few days, vineager will freeze so thats one thing you will have to watch out for. But I do know it works well for flushing the cooling system out BTDT many times and back flushing with a hose does a real good job

Dan, I have found that after you drain out the vinegar,if you remove the block drain and back flush the block .Just make up a 1/4" male pipe thread adapter to your garden hose. You can get most of the rust and gunk out of the block and radiator.

Vinegar will take care of rust if given time. I have not done a block but I would think it would work fine. I would flush out as much rust as I could before adding the vinegar.
