I have an 8N that must get warmed up before you can put it gear and let the clutch out. I think, for some reason, the transmission oil has to get warm.

Also, the governor may cause the tractor to kill the motor when you put it in gear.

Just something to think about.

Here is what I would try.

I would jack both rear wheels off the ground, and with the tractor in neutral, turn one tire, and see what happens, and how it feels, and how the opposite tire turns.

Then try turning both tires at the same time, in the same direction, and see what the results are.

SCANLIN,Have you tried to let the clutch out with the engine running and the shifter in neutral? It sounds to me like its shifting into two gears at once, locking it up.

Scannie..... ...OWEE!!! yer CAPS are hurtin' my eyeballs. Caps are equivalent of YELLING!!! TIA

NO..... ..it is NOT yer PTO

As I understand it, you can "start" the engine with the clutch pedal down, but just can NOT let yer clutch pedal UP without the engine dying.

I know you are ADAMANT in insisting yer tranny is NOT in 2-gears at once. BUT that is the ONLY cause of killing the engine when letting out the clutch pedal. Generally caused by worn tranny shifter plates..... ....Dell
