Hi, I have a 1950 Ford 8N, the lift has seemed to get a mind of it's own all of a sudden. I can raise the lift but it goes all the way up before you can get it to come back down, it will stay up then go down when you lower it but it wont stop part way down then come back up until you lower it completely then raise it completely. I have replaced the dowel pin, but my control rod is curved, from what I read here, I think it should be straight. What should I do next? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

In addition to the bent control rod and such needing attention it sounds to me like the control valve/s may be sticking. If that control rod is bent enough it could be causing it to bind but dirty or watery oil is usually the culprit.

I agree with Sounder. Straighten the control rod and use Zane's jig to adjust the lift. If you replaced the pin, the rest is easy.

Straighten the rod.. make sure you have clean oil, then adjust the lift.. either byt he book.. or with a jig you can purchase from one of the members here.. ( zane sherman )
