Is there an internet article on this modification?
I have an idea I believe would be quite easy but where did you get this info?

I have a front mount magneto for a 2N that I was going to convert a 8N from a front mount to a side mount.
I don't think it would be too hard to install an electronic ignition in place of the mag components.
It is in very good shape & looks like new.
I did not use it as I was pracically given a Jubilee so sold the 8N.
Anyone have any idea if this has been done?
Would sell the mag for a fair price.
Jim

Well. first you need a different block, and then a different distributor. It"s just not worth it. Billy

Do you REALLY need a different block??? in reply to Billy Goat, 03-15-2008 16:39:58
The reason you "need" a different block is NOT so obvious.

You CAN put a "side-mount" camshaft and front cover and distributor on a older "front-mount" block.

The problem is, the distributor is in the way of the GENERATOR, which is on the RH side on front-mounts, and the LH side on "side mounts".

And, on the front-mount block, there's NO generator "mounting pads" on the LH side of the block.

I don't know if it is possible to change things a bit and keep the generator on the RH side.

Otherwise, the only alternative would be to cobble up a generator mount for the LH side, probably using a couple of headbolts and oilpan bolts to attach it.
