Any suggestions on the best stuff to flush out a clogged radiator? Before you say "vinegar" I must divulge a few details. A while back I drained my cooling system in the process of replacing a bad head gasket. While I was at it I filled it with vinegar in hopes of disolving, and cleaning out some deposits while I was at it. Left the vinegar in for a day or two then drained, and refilled with new coolant and water mix. Everything seemed ok until I started noticing some greenish crud around the radiator cap recently. Today I was blading my road, and started noticing the N getting hot then it suddenly started overheating, and boiling out the cap. I figured maybe a bad stat, but when I went to drain the cooling system and removed the bottom hose I notice that the radiator is barely draining out. I also noticed a lot of oily residue that must have been dislodged by some of the vinegar solution. Also the green slimy substance in the radiator. Should I try a good radiator flush, or does anyone have any ideas that might work better? I have no problem trying more vinegar, but somehow I do not think the black residue which is probably left from my bad head gasket will disolve with the vinegar. Thanks in advance and I am certain others have had success with this same problem.

When I did mine with vinegar, I ran it to get it hot, let it sit overnight, then drained and flushed with water, using the output side of my 5hp vac to "blow" the water out of the block drain. I blew the water out 5 times to assure it was clean.

When you do a vineager flush you need to drain the system, fill with white vinager and then run it till its good and warm. Drain it when it cools off some but not cold. Then hook up a garden hose to the block drain and back flush it with the hose for at least an hour.
