9N Transmission ???

I split my 9N this morning to do a little exploratory surgery on the final drive. When I removed the PTO shifter I managed to let the front of the countershaft slip backwards and out of the front bearing cup - arrgh! I haven't been able to coax it back into place working from the rear. If I remove the top cover on the transmission will I have sufficient room to get past the mainshaft and line it up from above? I don't relish the thought of having to tear it all the way down.

TIA,

TOH

Here is a shot with the main shaft removed. It would be hard to get at it with the main shaft and shiift rails in the way. John's idea seems they way to go...

main shaft is in this pic. its even tighter with the shift rails in there..

Thought only, don't the end of the counter shaft have a bolt in it, if so remove it and make a threaded rod to use to help get leaverage to push it back in place

Thanks guys,

I'll give John's idea of poking from below a try. I'll jave to see if I can rent a second set of hands.

The short answer is yes, but as John said - you should be able to rig something through the filler hole to lift up on it. This pic is kinda small, but there are a few good straight down views in my photo album.

Not much to the countershaft that could keep you from slipping it back into place. How about removing the drain plug and using a stick to lift up on the front end of the countershaft, then push forward from the back?
