"Bruce (VA)" mentioned in previous posts to remove the bolt to the right of the water-pump and squirt oil in to pre-lube the valve-train. I'm not finding the bolt. The only obvious bolts in the area are the head-bolts as far as I can tell. Does the bolt exist on the pre-1950 8n's?
On another note - I considered replying to his post in my previous thread but since that thread is three pages-in at this point I didn't know if it would be noticed. What is SOP for this type of situation? Make a new post(like this one) or reply to the older post?

Randy..... ...the BIG (15/16") oilpump priming NUT in this picture is painted red so ya really gotta squint. Its above one of the two frontmount distributor bolts and is hidden behind the waterpump fanblade pulley extention in other picture. Watchout for the pressure spring going "sprong".

USE HEAVY OIL to prime oilpump, 90w or 140wt oil. You doubt? When you rebuild yer engine, you stuff yer oilpump gears fulla vasoline or chassis grease. Iff'n you use engine oil, it'll leak right past the oilpump gears before you even gitt the BIG NUT screwed back in. Yes, it is supposed to have a "flat".

And YES, start a NEW thread when yer original query pages to the NEXT page. Us responders don't really go checking to page#3 for new follow-ups, but YOU should always check back to yer original query just incase..... ...HTH, Dell

The large flat oil relief valve cover bolt is to the left of the water pump if you are looking at the front of the engine. It is fairly flat and almost flush with the front timing cover, and at the top of that cover on the face. It is usually covered with oil, grease, and dirt so some scraping might be needed to locate it. This bolt is there on ALL 9N/2N/8N tractors.

HTH,
Dan
