I just bought a new water pump It is just like the one on this url link. just wondering what the plate on the back is. it is held on by one bolt and has a hex nut welded on to a ear that come of the side of the plate. the old pump dose not have it. in the pic it is on the right side. it looks like it would go between the pump and the block. do I need it on there or can i discard it? it is for a 1950 8n

oulu fin..... ...that NUTPLATE is for the sidemount genny fanbelt tension arm. YOU NEED the plate. Don't matter, frontmount or sidemount, you need waterpump plate. The frontmount don't need the adjusting nut 'cuz the genny is on the otherside of engine. But thats ok, it ain't in the way. Yes, you also need the gaskets. I use a swipe of chassis greese to seal the paper gaskets, you can use enny puckey you feel works for you. Torque 5/16" nuts to 14ft/lbs.

You may need a 5-nipple sidemount lower radiator hoze. Its slightly different from 4-nipple frontmount. (I don't remember 'zackly)

And NO, even though they sell rebuild kits, it don't pay to rebuilt a water pump, buy NEW!!! ..... .Dell

I heard that.. 27$ for the rebuild kit vs 40$ new.. I'd never rebuild one for that small difference.

Hey, if they are out there, they are fair game! I ripped it from someone else. I don't have anything that clean & pretty, myself. :)

1950 was the change-over year for front mount / side mount.. gotta be specific on that issue most of the time when posting messages or ordering parts.

Helps us help you..
