8N Leveling box assembly knuckle - right

I'm replacing the right-side leveling box assembly on my '51 8N. (The old one had "died" and been spotwelded at "level" by previous owner.)

What is the purpose of the "knuckle" for this assembly. I don't see one on my assembly now, and wonder what is the purpose--and should I have one?

Thx,

Greg

Since you now have a good one to replace it with.. if you want a fun project, cut that spotweld out with a grinder and see whatt he problem is. usually either the male threads on the shaft.. or the female threads on the inside are gone.

I repaired one by taking a long 3/4"x 10 gr5 bolt and cutting it off at the shoulder above the threads ( 4" of threads ).. then taking a long 3/4" coupling nut ( for allthread ), and doing some cut and splice.

Cut a portion out of the femal end the same lengeth as the coupler nut.. tack the nut on, then weld around. and build up and then contour with grinder... keep it 'true'.

do the same with the thread.. cut equal amount of old thread off, apply grease to threads.. or cover with tape...tack it on opposite sides.. cut v grove on both halfs, and weld up good and over the tack... grind back down. Run a 3/4" tap with some grease on it up into the female end, and then pass the male end thru a die.. you will be good to go. replace the grease fitting for good measure..

I did one for my 2n like this.

Without one you crank handle will not be facing the rear.
