Hey there guys, I just thought i would share what i did. I got really tired of the sway bars dropping to the ground when I was trying to hook up implements. Not to mention that you can not back up when they are hooked up to the tractor and the other end is on the ground! I got a pin that usually mounts on an implement and cut it off and mounted it with light chain to the draw bar arms. It works great and is easy and cheep!

I too got tired of backing over my sway bars. I drilled a hole in my bars and my fenders. I bolted some eye bolts to my fenders and bought a couple of rubber bungees measured to suspend the bars about 6 inches off the ground. If they don't line up all you have to do is streach them an inch or two till they do.

I've used an old pin similar to the way you have but found that double sided velcro tape wrapped around the stabilizer and lower lift arm is more convenient for me.

I took a simple screen door return-spring (long tension coiled spring) and cut it in half. Wrapped each half around the lift arm and sway bar and hooked the ends of the (now) short springs to them selves.
Now the lift arms/sway bars remain married, yet have plenty of flexibilty to move around a little bit when installing implements (including those that don't need the sway bars.)

what do you not use them for?

Sean, he may be like me. My old plow doesn't have long enough shanks/pins (whatever they're called) to hook them up. The 3 point barely leaves room for the pin. It's all made into the plow so no easy way to lengthen them.

My plow has cast pins that do not allow for bars and my V hitch can not use them. This is a better pic.

Yes it does, till you break it off again.

I have no idea how I break my chains off, but I do.

Seems like mine lasts as long, or longer, with a piece of electric fence wire around them loosely.
You know, that stuff has about as many uses as duct tape.

Works great. They are always on and I always have a implement hooked up. Except when switching implements.

LOL, Sean...

Mine looks a lot like that, with the chains now broken off....

Probably about re-do time..

Here is my fix...Just weld a short chain to the lower lift arm and the other end to the sway bar.

I agree it's not convenient having to leave the sway bars lying around, plus I have driven them in the ground a few times backing up.

So, your pins are chained together & hang off the lift arm? When an implement is connected you let'em dangle?

Jeff

Yes. they are chained together. The pins dangle when an implement is on. I can not weld a chain from lift arms to sway bars since i can not always use the bars on all my implements. The sway bars must be able to be removed.
