I took it apart but after taking the spring out the ball & piece beside it came out together so now I don't know which one goes in first. Anybody else had one apart?

I thought about that but I cut the weld close to the cap with a little cut-off wheel so it can only go back to it's original place. Some of the weld is still on the threaded part.

Thanks btw for suggesting that about the grit, you was dead on.

I think "the weld" was soilder, 60/40 melts at a low temp, no need to grind it off.

Hobo posted a pic of a pressure guage/calibration tool a day or so ago.

No, I can't pull it up right now.

Yea I already replaced it but was curious to see if these could be repaired. I think it was "Tom N Ms" who posted that it was only a steel ball inside so I figured there couldn't be much in there to go wrong. He was right, full of nasty grit. Cleaned it up good & put it back together both ways with about the same results when blowing through it. Did seem a little tighter with the ball in first. I'd say you're right about that piece keeping the ball out of the spring, makes sense.

Since my original post I dropped that piece on the ground & can't find it now but I think it bounced under my pop-up camper that I was using for a workbench. :oops:
Hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow.

Should be easy to change inside housing & test it with what Hobo said to do with the hose connected to it. I'll keep ya'll posted.

I did the same thing-dropped the little thingy that goes against the spring...sorry I forgot to mention it. And as I recall it is not metal so a magnet won't help you find it.

jon;

Don't know for sure, But that square piece looks like a keeper plate to keep the ball from getting stuck inside the spring. So.....I would say,....the ball in first, then the keeper plate, then the spring, and then the cover cap...!!!?????

Did you buy a new valve , or are you trying to see if you can fix that old valve??? Would be interested in seeing if it worked, after clean-up!!!!!

I got a new one that failed after no use at all. I took it apart and got the tiny grain of sand out of it but I would be afraid to use it since nobody can really say how tight to screw the cap before re-soldering..
