As of 7:15 PM this eve., The axle and pin, are re-mated, on Hermie the 2N.

The following pix. are of the finished fix, on the axle, and axle support.

One week and $197.83 worth of parts, welder fees, and labor, It is finally done.

All this work and expence, could have been done for around $65.00 if they had been fixed right in the first place, instead of the lousy temp. fix that had been done by a prev. owner.
Installed new axle pin, axle bushing, and had almost all of both axle suppport bores refinished correctly. Also bought and installed new connection bolts, for the axle and extentions. This fix should last well after I'm gone.

Here are the pix.

Gary;

As always, you do some fine work. That whole job must have been trying on your patience having Hermie apart with the snow flying. It has to feel good knowing that he is back together, better than ever and safe.

I have the Beast apart now, waiting for the radiator to be done. It is a good time for me to closely examine my front axel pin. What should I be looking for? There doesn’t seem to be any sloppiness in it, should I take the axel extensions apart to get a better look? I sent some pictures to you earlier; did you see anything I should be concerned about?

Morning Dan;

Unfortunatly, the only way you will know for sure, what is behind the face plate of yer axle pin, is to dismantle it. :shock:
I thought mine was OK, did not feel any slop in the front end, and had good responce to the steering, BUT.....you can see by the posts, about mine, that I was totally WRONG!!!!!

I could not see anything in yer pic's, that could tellya that you may/may not, have a prob., But...if you have the beast tore down for other fixes, I would say do it NOW, while you have it apart!!! Don't wait and have to tear it down, all over again. Makes for long hrs. and headaches!!!!! :lol:
Let me know how/what ya find!!!! Make sure to replace anything that even remotely looks bad!!!!!

I have a parts manual, if ya need me to look up anything, just holler!!!!

HTH Gary :)

Morning jon;

Nope, the dist., never got touched, But.....when the "N" slid off an ice berm, and proceeded to cut the radiator hose in half, I knew there was something wrong!!!!! That's when I tore the front end completely down, to investigate!!!! :lol:
Good thing I did, cause that other pin, had cracked the axle in three places, and was about ready to let the pin fall out of the support.!!! :shock:
Have an "N" day.

Gary :roll:

Sean;

I would not do that, if I were you. John (TR), is right. The axle support you have, is the later and stronger 8N axle support.
The metal/welder man, told me that welding that plate on the front of my support, may have strengthened the front of the support, But...was also the reason that the axle bore, on the front of mine, was Not lined up with the back bore,...(almost 3inches off). He said to just leave it there, because taking it off would make things worse. To fix the bore line, took him the better part of 2 hrs. But...has now been pulled back into line with the rear bore, so that the new pin rides evenly in both bores. Axle pin now goes through both bores smoothly, and even.

HTH

Gary :D

Prev. owner welded a plate across the front of mine for strength, I think for running a front end loader. The angle iron is for the hydrolic pump. I didnt bother taking all that crap off, and I am going to use the angle iron to mount a front bumper on, when I get it finished. I'm not putting anything directly on this axle, EVER!!!!! LOL

Yep Mountain time.

Thanks Sean.
