Good Day: i would like to confirm a hunch that the 9n and 2n rear ends[ differentials] have the same ratio's, both trannys are 3 speeds going into them. unless they had different size tire's, either rear end would bolt up and move the same distance/speed when powered? Forget the hydraulic system altogether for now, as the project thought of doesn't need hyd ability.
thanks

I am sure that others have thought about switching thses things around in times of breakage also.
mine are not broke, just that things forward of the tranny need major work, so ideas are being reviewed as to what to do or use it for next.
it came here in pieces so,nothing lost as to investment.
Thanks again fellas, much appreciate your time and efforts
regards ps: major plan now is to build a frame[s] and mount two rearends opposite each other and articulate/rolling piviot the frames. using a chev S10 engine/tranny, drive the rears via u-jointed drivline, similiar to a skidder/forwarder construction. Did this with ranger rearends and escort engine back a few years, made a great utility "buggy" thanks again

Phil..... .surprizingly enuff, according to my N-Ford MPC (master parts catalog) the 9N/2N/and 8N ALL are listed as having the SAME diffy ring & pinion; p/n: 79-4210-A, gear (rear axle driving) ratio 6.66 to 1. FNH sez 794210A alternates with 8N4210A. The pinion is the same p/n: 7RT4215, PINION, DRIVE (Pinion, Rear Axle Differential, Years: 01/01/1939-12/31/1952) The ring is held to the diffy cage with 12-rosebud rivets, but Ford/New Holland sells special replacement nuts'n'bolts. p/n: 86531502 bolt and 45313-S34 nut (7/16-20) slotted..... ..HTH, Dell
