Ive called around and the cheapest I can find a 11.2x28 Ag-tire is $201.95+tax. Thats just for the tire...Should I keep shopping? I live in north florida...

Since I'm gonna get in trouble with the wife even @ $200 I am thinking maybe I can mount it myself...Is that possible? I've done lots of motorcycle tube tires and ATV tubeless - None of it was fun but it was possible. Does that carry-over into the giant tractor tire realm?

I believe that buffed tires came from the factory with a small blemish so they "buffed" off all the markings - size, brand etc. They would likely be good tires but would have no warranty.
I always change my own tires. Use my 3/4 t pickup and drive onto the tire along the rim to loosen the bead. Back up, rotate the tire and drive on again. Then I use the one tire iron I own and either a wonder bar or other pry bar to pry the tire off the rim. They've always come off even if old. Remounting them is easy. Use lots of dish soap, get one side of the tire started on the rim then pry the rest of it on.

Thats what I woulda thought too. The website for tiretown.com said all tires were buffed. I'd never heard of a recapped tractor tire but maybe thats what they meant.

Not a bad price...especially if a USA made tire (Titan). I just paid about 450 (including mounting and tubes)for a set of rears for my 8N. Got them from Black's tire service in Florence SC.

I'll try, but I may be wrong...
And it may mean something different according to what context it is used in.

My best guess is that a tire that has had all of the tread removed prior to the re-tread process would be considered a buffed tire.

That may or may not be what you are talking about.

The price does not sound out of line. Tire prices have increased significantly with the rising cost of oil.

Tractor tires are rather easy to change, though you will no doubt struggle the first time you try to do it. If you can change motorcycle and ATV tires, you should be able to change 28" tractor tires.

Usually, the most difficult part is breaking the bead on the old tires. A good slide hammer is invaluable here. Perhaps you can rent one.

Aside from that, you will need 2 good tire irons and patience.

That"s a good price based on what I"ve seen and I wouldn"t think about trying to change it without the proper tools and experience.
