I love the old grils but they can't keep up with my high demand, I don,t think its time for the pasture but I hate to see them suffer. A proud owner of a 8 and a9n. What to do?

RGM, This is my formula for retirement. You work all of your life and get comfortable with a certain amount of income per year. So, when your investments start bringing in that certain amount that your used too, then is when it's time to retire. The older we get the less money we tend to spend on toys and things. This is my formula for human retirement. Now for Tractor retirement. You use your tractor for a certain amount of time and you get used to how much it cost to run and maintain the toys and things for it. If they start to cost more than they are worth in maintenance, then and only then are they ready for retirement. So, using my formula for tractor retirement, I don't think any Ford N tractor is ever ready for retirement.

Mark....
Simi retired but the maintenance cost rises more and more every day.

Keep them and use them for the small stuff. Shoot I still use my 1935 JD-B to rake hay every year. I have 34 tractors and I know I could not do with out at least 10 of them. No one tractor will do it all so I say keep them you may kick your self later if you don't

It does'nt seem to cost that much to maintain my two old fords; relatively speaking. They don't work that hard but but they're around if I need them. One stays attached to mower in summer which keeps the other available for whatever. Sometimes it's just nice to have "old stuff" around to tinker with. Kept running, they don't depreciate. Bill

I have both and all in between - one 8N that I bought to mow the property and general duty - ended up fixing that one up to trailer queen status and now the hardest work she sees is pulling the annual haywagon at our property celebration. I had a 1952 8N that I fixed up JUST enough to work hard and it performed workhorse duty for a few years at my place. I have a 1954 NAA that was dead and rusting away in the field for decades - I bought it and took every nut and bolt off and rebuilt every system on it - it is now ressurected and does all the grunt work at our place. I have a 1939 9N that I rescued for hard work to completely restore it back to its original glory. Not sure if it will ever see another day of work under my watch - just nice leisurely drives around my place.

Nothing wrong at all about retirement :-)

Dan

I thought I made $50 grand a year, till I filed my taxes this week.

I like making money playing on this dayum thing, and helping all of these folks, and still getting paid for it, while I still keep up my job.

I did want to plow in this 75*+ weather today, I thing I may take tomorrow afternoon off and do that, no loss to my pay.

I feel real bad about your dilema . I have a convalesecnt home here for such old Ford tractors as yours. They will get the best of care & physical therapy . Yes they can have visitors . I guarentee the best of care & attention by my nursing staff .You're welcome to just bring them anytime . Thank you from the management & God bless, Ken

I wish I could retire and play with the 8N.

But $60 grand a year, as opposed to nothing, I can't figger out how to support all these deadbeats.
