Just found my problem. Contact at bottom of coil was bent the wrong direction, not making contact with distributor cap. It was really easy to bend the wrong way at installation and then overlook that one small detail. Thanks for the quick replies...it will be nice to know you guys are here in the future. I can only assume this won't be my last problem with that 'ol "girl"!

actually I noticed how easy it would b to overlook the pigtail and got that right, in doing so I failed to notice the contact on the front of the coil that actually contacts the dist. cap, not the dist. When i put it together i obviously hooked that contact bending it the wrong direction, which gave me good fire at the points, but not at the plugs. If this doesn't make sense to u all I will take another stab at explaining it when i have more time to look at it myself. I simply folded that flat contact back the correct direction, put together, and it popped the prettiest "BLUE" spark I have ever seen on "6 volts".. still have a fuel delivery problem to my new carb, but i figure a new fuel tank and strainer will alleviate that problem

I understand what you're saying about the spark. What sort of fuel delivery problem are you having? Remove the bolt in the bottom of the carb; as long as the fuel is turned on, you should see gas flowing out of the carb. If not, the N has three fuel screens; one in the brass elbow, one in the top of the sediment bowl & one on the stem of the sediment bowl in the gas tank. All three probably need to be cleaned. If you have the fuel knob turned on all the way, it may be trying to feed off of the reserve inlet which is probably clogged. Just 2 turns is all it needs, but make sure you have at least 2 gallons in the tank.

Tnx for the follow-up. The pigtail on a frontmount is a likely source of a 'no spark at the plugs' problem.

6v or 12v? It could make a difference in troubleshooting.

First, check for continuity inside the distributor w/ a meter or test light. It is very easy to ground the wire to the condenser when you replace the points. Check the point gap, .015 on all four lobes. Points do slip closed! And, as I know from personal experience, the rubbing block on some of the ‘made overseas’ points do wear out sooner than you would expect. Make sure you have the star washer under the screws on the points.

Next, with the distributor still off the tractor, install the coil. Test for continuity from the top of the coil to the points. If you do not have continuity, stretch the pigtail a bit until you do.

There is a slight chance the resistor is bad. (the resistor on the terminal block) It should read .3 ohms cold & 1.7 ohms hot.

Please be sure to post back & let us know what the fix was. We all learn something if you tell us what worked!

This may be a silly question, but I noticed that all the parts you mentioned I did not see a rotor.
