I was going to cut down a few more eucalyptus for next year's firewood, but it was really windy. Naturally, I was not about to fell trees in such conditions, and so later on I went to inspect our eucs. See pictures. Guess I'll put the saw away and get the N out. Angelo (P.S. This is my first time posting pictures, so my apologies if you can't open them.)

Sorry for the profoundly ignorant question, but exactly how do you plan to deal with these death traps. I've got several similar situations on my property and would like to hear of a safe way to neutralize them. I just steer clear at this point.
Thanks.

I've (not saying to do it)taken a chain and binder couple wraps above cut and with GOOD traction and sharp saw-still alive-this done with Alder-Tamarack-Pine. W

BillGA, Though I've felled about 200 of our eucs have never had a similar situation. The plan: On the horizontal branch, cut off the limbs at the tree's upper end leaving no stubs.Tie my 100' nylon rope, 3000# breaking strength, to the stump end, hoping to pull free. Have on my never-used hard hat, bulky clothing, and have my helper a good distance off to signal how it's going. Nylon stretches and if it breaks can result in a whiplash, so I'll be looking forward to the helper--not back. Re the one in back, cut branches on the ground and chain branch to my carryall. high enough so tree won't dig into the ground. On first branch, if still wedged, will pull at an angle, trying to break off one of the crotch branches. You might lose traction pulling on a point high up but no risk of back flip if pulling from the drawbar. I'm not above accepting suggestions, so anyone can chime in. HTH. Will post later how it comes out. Angelo

Soundguy, No, I don't think burning eucalyptus would clear up the sinuses, but one of those branches falling on one's head could be a permanent cure. Seriously, the leaves, especially when crushed, have a pleasant aroma. Medicinal benefits apparently depend on the species; there are several hundred. I planted only three. If interested, you might look up Medicinal Properties of Eucalyptus on the Internet. Angelo
