Distributor power post ground question....

I replaced my timing gear cover so had to remove alot of parts from the 8N to get it off...now I'm not getting any spark to the plugs. I did search the archives and was able to find some answers to some of the questions that I had.

What I remember when I took the dist. out the wire from the coil broke at the post. I then lost the little nut from the post so had to pull the other nut off(didn't have a fine thread like that one)and thought that there may have been some sort of a gasket between the post(flat back end) and the dist. body.(????)Don't know must be getting old.

When I put everything back together I get no spark at the points. When I take the coil wire and by pass the post by putting it directly to the condenser post connection, I have spark at the points.

So my question(s) is/are, should there be some sort of gasket there? and what can I make one out of? Would rubber or cork work?

Thanks Rick

Rick..... as Bob sez: fish paper gasket. Me? I replaced mine with NYLON feedthru washers from my local full service hardware store. The screw is 10-32, typical electronics hdwr as are the nylon feedthru..... ..Dell

They used a short of "fishpaper" washer INSIDE the distributor, and a hard rubber or phenolic washer/bushing at the OUTSIDE to keep the bolt centered in the hole.

Third Party Image

NH still has the parts, but they are $$$$.

A nylon insulating washer used to mount power transistor makes a good substitute. Know anybody who might have one of those laying around?

The nylon license plate mounting captive nuts (waldo-world automotive aisle) can be modified for this, as well.

OBVIOUSLY, that should be "They used a SORT of "fishpaper" washer"...

(UNLESS it is REALLY "shorted"!)
