I acquired a dissasembled 2n a while back that came with 2 aux trannys. One is a sherman, don't know if up,down or both. How can you tell? It was split and allowed to weather. Kind of rusty but not bad. Because of the shifter, I think the other one is a Hupp.It is still in the tranny. It also came with another tranny case with the hole in it for the shifter. now, my question is, how was the hole put into the tranny case for the shifter linkage to come thru?? How was it measured for?? Was there a special support assembly to hold the aux inside or was it supported by the transmission internals?? I live in SE AZ and only use my 2 to grade, smooth move stuff around AND go 4 wheeling out in the desert with my 3 yr old grandson, like we did today. I don't need the aux trannys but I am thinking about putting one into my 2n. I would like to use the tranny case already on the tractor if putting the hole in the case is not too big a problem.

Richard..... ..the tranny case shifter hole is located by "template". Castiron is eazy to drill. John Smiths excellent Sherman page has a template shown. Iff'n I remembers correctly, the shifter lever hole is DIFFERENT between 2-speed OD and 3-speed hi/lo. The OD shifter lever is simple "L" shape and hi-lo is crooked dogleg "S" shaped. Look, not hard to tell.

NO extra shifter lever support, its part of the Sherman shifting rails design.

Use what ever tranny is complete. Rebuild kits are available from RedRock mfg. ..... ..Dell

Wow, what a great site with pictures of the Sherman, Thanks ! Little confused, After reading up on the Sherman with all of Johns great info I tried coming back here from his home page by clicking on the "Forums" button but it didn't take me back here, it took me to another (maybe bigger) n Tractor site, tried 5 times? Oh well, both are good sites.
