Award---I found my plow manual and thought I would add a few things that may help in addition to all the good advice you rec"d yesterday.

The manual says that for all 10", 12", and 14" plows the front wheel spacing should be set at 48" and the rears at 52".

For the 16" plow the fronts should be at 52" and rears at 56".

Field Adjustments Section reads:
"To adjust the plow frame for width of cut, loosen and tighten the hex nuts on the adjustment arm (J Bolt). This adjustment slides the drawbar laterally."

"To decrease the width of cut, loosen the outside nut and tighten the inside nut. To increase the widthof cut, loosen the inside nut and tighten the outside nut."

"Moving the drawbar 1/4" laterally changes the width of the cut about 1 inch. One rotation of the adjusting nuts changes the width of cut about 1/4".

Good Luck--plowing days are coming.

Tim

As you can see, here, rotating the eccentric shifts the "rotation" of the plow on the draw bar, thus moving the 'pointing angle' to left or right. Same as sliding yours on the bent/curved draw bar. Different designers, not infringing on patents, but reaching the same end in different ways.

That plow is adjusted by rotating the eccentric. The same adjustment on yours is made by moving the draw bar, relative to the plows, left or right.

Two entirely different designs. But both result in changing the 'pointing angle' of the plow.

award said: (quoted from post at 18:11:37 04/02/08) thanks bud. thanks to everyone who responded.

i did go out and measure the drawbar. on the plows right side it has 7 1/4" of draw bar hanging out. the plows left side has 3 1/4" hanging out. i just wonder if it should be equal on both sides, at least as a starting point.

In my opinion, how many inches of 'draw bar' hanging out left or right does not matter....whatever number it takes to obtain the correct plow pointing angle does matter. That angle has been discussed in various terms several times in the 3 or 4 threads related to your plow question.

I might be wrong , here, but I don't think you are going to talk the plow into proper alignment..... probably going to take some wrenching, plowing, wrenching, plowing..... maybe some 6 inch blocks and 20-30 foot of string.

Award, My book " The Moldboard Plow Service Manual" dated 1947 Harry Ferguson, Inc. Calls for 3 and 1/2 inch space from the beam to the shoulder at the end of the cross shaft, RIGHT side. Now this is for a much earlier model plow, however this should be close. At least a starting place. Lots Of Luck Joe
