Have had problems with my lift last year. Most of the time it would lift my 5' disc only about 1/2 way and sometimes not much more than a couple of inches.

After tackling the timing gear cover sucessfully, thought about trying to do something with it. Read about the cam follower pin and thought this has got to be the problem. I checked the hyd. oil with the dip stick and it seemed "ok". Hadn't been changed in a few years. Pulled the cover off and took a look, first time that I have been in there so not sure what to look for. In this picture the pin seems to have little or no wear. (more to come)

Thanks for the reply,

Is the relief valve the same as the "Hydraulic Safety Valve Assy"?

And what is the "Zanes adjusting jig"?

Yes, the safety valve & relief valve are the same. Re Zane's Jig, I gave you the link in my post below (it says 'Zane's Jig'); didn't the link work?

There's a picture of the correct pin in the archives in a posting by JMOR on 12-11-2007.

You guys are right. Went back out and took a look and there was a bunch of crud underneath the spring area. Took a screwdriver & cleaned it off & this is what I found! :o A 58 year old worn out pin!

Thought I was looking at the right pin, but was not.

I've got two more pictures to post with more questions, but it will be later on tonight.
Thanks for your help!

Ditto what the others said.. the pin you see is not the cam pin. The 'cam' will move witht he 3pt lift handle.. there is a pin that 'rides' that cam.

Davy..... ...in my FO-4, the infamous cam follower pin is #71 in 4-different pictures. The "best" picture is schematic FO133 (position control) which shows the CAM (labeled) but doesn't label the cam follower pin which is plainly shown. The cam follower pin just "barely" shows in top picture UNDERNEATH the short spring. (about middle of long spring) The "cam" should be intuitive obvious. The cam pin is WORN, you can see some "shiny".

You do realize ONLY the 8N has the cam follower pin, don't you?..... ...Dell

Only the 9N and 2N do not have the cam follower pin. All the later models do have a cam follower pin identical to the 8N.

Likewise, I seen no pin for the cam. Look at the cam on the rear lift arm cross-shaft, there should be a 5/16 harened pin that rides along that cam as the arms go up & down.

The pin that I see is not the cam follower pin; it's the pin on the control rod that stops it's forward movement against the lift cylinder. Maybe others have better eyes, but I can't see it in this pic. Do you see the "cam"? The pin rides on that. Your lift could easily be out of adjustment. You should get an adjusting jig from Zane to do it right. While the I&T FO4 manual has excellent instructions, those adjustments do not take into consideration 50+ years of wear on the springs.

Found out can only post one pic per post so....

The hyd. oil looked ok at the top, but as this pic shows with a little stirring it showed what looks like lots of moisture in there.

Is this my main problem here or can you see anything from the pics that would concern you?

Rick I had a simular problem with mine this past fall. Based on the advice from this board I cleaned the sump, changed the relief valve and while I was in there honed the cylinder, installed a NAA piston and swapped the cam follower pin. Bought and used Zanes adjusting jig, put in fresh oil and now it works great. I believe if I would have left any one of those steps out, the results would have been not as good.

I totally agree..... get zanes jig and do everything mentioned. Mine now works like a charm. your pin looks like mine did when I removed mine.

I haven't checked my manual but I think your cam pin is worn off. I can't see it.
If you don't get a picture from somewhere I could send you one.
Don't know how to post them here.
