They for sure didn't seem to be interested in surveilence, and finding out who, did they.

They may have already known, and they kept their dues paid, till folks started complaining.

Beleive it or not we had about 10 stills running up here in the Heldegergh Mts south west of Albany, NY when I was in grade school . That was in the mid 50s.

That sheriff sounded like he would have been just as happy if he hadn't gotten that 'tip'!

Just before he passed away this winter, my Grandfather was telling me and my fiance about his moonshining adventures when he was a little boy, riding in the back of his dad"s car with bottles rattling. The supplemental income that kind of "side business" kept a lot of people fed during the depression.

The laws are archaic. If you can make beer and wine, then you should be able to make the rest of the stuff.

Don, You could be right. I haven"t looked into it too thoroughly. I do know that one of the reasons it is illegal is due to taxation, as you point out.

Happy "N" weekend!

Dunk, I couldn't hear the video but. Anyways, hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. Down here it's drink all you want, just don't tell anyone about it that drives a car with no house keys on the key ring. That's a clear sign that the car is owned by your local federallies.

Mark....

I've deer hunted years ago in Walker County and ran across several stills. Once I found 500 gallon cookers but there were three of them (1500 gals). The Infernal Revenuers had blown most of them up on Pigeon Mountain by then. Next County South had a biggun in a huge cave. They blew the entrance on that one. Have to go to Aladamabama to get good shine now. But I'm on soft drinks (Bud) David.

When I was a kid there was remnants of 2 or 3 like this in the woods, 1/3 of a mile or so behind my house. I bet I can still (pun intended) walk you right to one of them.

But stills like this were child's play, on the cook stove, from most of the still remnants I remember from when I was a kid.

Most had 1500 gal cook pots.

But I was just a kid, and they had been destroyed before then.

I still live in the same house my Dad, and 2 Grandads built in '48 (a year before my 8N was made), 8 years before I was born.

I have plowed some old mules too, in my time, bless their old tired hearts.

I now know how they felt.

That brings back old memories. My grandfather was a deputy sheriff in Va. and he would go on raids and bring back parts of the stills that he stored under the house. My uncle would sneak in and steal the parts and trade back to the shiners for product. I was just a kid but I still remember it was a running joke among my uncles and aunts and cousins. Grandpa never found out what really happened, he thought we kids were "losing" the stuff because we played around there and scattered materials all over the holler.

I gotta to go to W.VA to buy that old "Kentucky Moon". 98 proof. Good for "range extender" in my service van. Also, use it in the windshield washer. People really get mad when I forget how far the windshield washer squirts.
