I just wonder if a combination of a worn front axel pin and worn drag link bolts doesn’t cause the axel to “droop” to the front? In this picture of a 2N for sale on ebay, notice how the bumper kind of points slightly down. It could be the bumper is bent, but I’ll bet the axel is tilted forward & down.

Soundguy:

You are right, I should have said "radius rod", instead of "drag link".
After looking at all of the pictures of that tractor on ebay, the radius rod at least on the left, does have a pretty big bow in it.

Gary:

After thinking through what you described and your welder saw, does the hair stand up on the back of your neck? Mine does!

Dan;

I'll just put it this way..... I'm glad it happened the way it did, before something serious happened. If it had, Hermie would just have to sit until I had more $$$$ to spend on him. As it is, I have a little over $215.00 in the repairs, not to mention about 10-15 hrs. labor. Course a lot of the time, was fig. out how to do the job, after I surveid the damage done.!!!

ON TO BETTER TIMES.!!!! 8)
Gary :D

I agree with the others.

Also..I wouldn't think steering draglink rods would have ANYTHING to do with the tipped axle.. now the radius rods.. yeah.. big time!

My take on this is: At some point, the front of that tractor has struck something, hard and with a good enough bang, to bend the radious bar/bars, in an upward bow, thereby twisting the axle forward at the top, which in turn has bent the front of the axle support. If the support is bent far enough forward at the top, the axle pin comes out of the rear bore, letting the force of the radius bars bend in the upward position, thereby twisting the axle and front support bore in a downward position at the top.

I tell ya this, because that is the way my welder told me that my front end was bent. The story goes that my 2N had a front end loader attached by prior owner, and the FEL struck a tree stump hard enough that it took almost, $200.00 to straighten it out.
When I bought my 2N, the loader had been removed, and the radius arms had been replaced. The support had not been straightened properly, so the axle pin egged out both pin bores.

JMO, and my welders coments.!!!!!

You guys can be the judge!!!
Gary (the guy that paid the bill to fix it right)

Left side radius rod appears to have a pretty good bend in it - if the other side is as bad, that would explain most of it.

FWIW - my front axle is tipped forward quite a bit - but it still wouldn't as bad that one looks if mine had a bumper on it.

My radius arms are bowed, but not that bad. I have the parts, I just need the time! After seeing what Gary went through w/ his king pin, I'm gonna fix it before I use it any more.

Also, if the axle bushing is completely missing, it will cause a substantial droop.

The radius rods would have to be badly bent to allow this,so it appears to me the bumper is bent down. CENTAUR

It looks like the radias rods are bowed pretty bad. I would say that is why the axle is pointing down.
