No prior brake experience. New brake parts, etc. and shaft. Took new and old shaft (farmerized threads) to machine shop. $20 to press brg. off old & onto new. Got preload too tight. Good advice straightened me out--added shims till could turn axle end by hand and other end rotated opposite. Barely a hint of in-and-out movement. Put on brake shoes. Bought KD 280 Brake Spring Tool. Worked good. Used goggles, heavy jkt. & gloves. Problems after wheels on: Brake pedals too low;; jacked up R. wheel hung up turning fwd. Backwards OK; L. wheel OK. Pulled R. wheel & drum. Couldn't see problem. Off with L. wheel & drum , marked drums & shoes; off to brake shop. Shoes arced to drums and all lining ends camphered 1" or so--$16. (I didn't listen to camphering advice because old shoes had NO camphering.) Back together. Greatly improved, but still some hang up turning jacked-up R. wheel fwd. & pedals still rather low. L. Drum cool after running; R. just warm. Runs OK downhill. Will run as is & re-adjust later. We're in moderately hilly country, but I rely on gears more than brakes. Thanks again for the advice; much appreciated. Angelo
