I was out cutting my grass with my new finishing mower. This would be the third time I have used it. Up until tonight it has worked excellent. Half way through my lawn, the tractor started to miss when under load. When I disengage the pto it clears up. Is this fuel or electrical? Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance....

im having the same problem with the missing under load. but the key here is that it only happens after the engine reaches operating temp...it seems to even out with half choke or so but the missing is still there. ive spayed carb cleaner around the carb flange and intake gasket. (you know how hard that is to do with the tractor moving and mowing???)anyways... no change....no my brain storm...could the head gasket be blown or the head warped? blowby between two cylinders wouldnt neccessarily cause a coolant leak but it could push blow by gasses into a cylinder that is trying to draw fuel...im pulling the head tomorrow to test my theory... let me know your thoughts and ill let you know what ive found. take care - chris

First thing is check the archives. This has come up every 2-3 hours for the past fifteen weeks.

It's one or the other, maybe. Usually, it's fuel starvation. Check the fuel filters. One in tank above valve, one in glass bowl and one in the carb inlet elbow. Drain the carb float bowl...could be a little water or trash in there. If you have full fuel flow to the carb and the flaot leel is correct, then you have to look at ignition system/timing and carb/governor adjustment. If the thing was running alright the last time you used it, it's probably clogged filters.

I'll try to get the "engine misses under load" section done for Ford FAQ's, soon.
