I'm looking at a 700 with a sherman trans.Does this trans. have a nutral position ? With the sherman lever forward you can spin the starter. Move it back and hit the starter again and the tractor moves.Could there be stripped gears in there ? They're going to auction this off in the morning, I'm interested , but don't know what i'm getting into. Tractor don't look too bad, Not all dolled up, just a workin' tractor that I could fix up and use.

If the starter spins witht he tractor in gear.. then I assume the interlock has been bypassed?

Yeah, I think they did something to the interlock, cause it let the starter work in gear .

That would be one of the first things I'd fix!

Andy,Yes it does have a neutral position, but it should have a lower gear with the lever forward all the way.Check the Smith page.

I looked at the Smith site .I see the "combo" trans has an "H" shift pattern . Maybe thats what this is, hope so. We'll see what happens in the morning , hopefully the owner will be there to tell about it
