Hello all, yet more frustration with my engine swap. It seems now that the engine I swapped may be worse than what was in there. After changing out the head because I thought there may a hairline crack which was leaking coolant I find the engine smoking bad. However I see lot of oil near the elbow juction and figure its leaking. I disconnect ehaust pipe to gain better access and there litarly fresh oil spitting out the ehaust as she is running. This is where the oil was comming from. If I throotle up, tons of smoke. How can so much oil be unburnt in the exhaust?

It is getting by yer piston rings faster than yer tractor can burn it up fer sure. Must be broken or stuck rings. You did get the head gasket orientation right, didn't you?

Only a thought, Changed head now pumping oil out exhaust. Did we maybe not get the head gasket sealed and now have a crankcase full of antifreeze and oil?

Xperts will chime in but what do the plugs look like? I'm wondering about a broke ring...

Rattsie..... ...time to byte the bullet and do the dreaded compression test. Ford specs: 90psi dry. And PULL all yer sparkies first and INSPECT yer sparkies for WET OIL. Iff'n yer spittin' oil as bad as you say, yer PUMPING oil with yer pistons. Lettuce know what your compression is and we can make more better intelligent guesses..... ...Dell

Prior to starting it was over 100 on all four. I did have a an incident where while initially trying to get the engine started i had a big clunk that broke the pin off my starter and one tang off the distributor. This engine was running strong while spitting out almost pure oil. I would take a piece of cardboard and hold it under the exhaust manifold and it would blacken with pure oil almost immediately. Unfortunely I can't get back to it for a week. Im curious about plugs to. But it seems I'm pretty much screwed to be spitting oil so stong, as dell says I must be pumping it. How abot some educated guesses to what has gone wrong since I can't get to the tractor till saturday?

Rattzie..... ..educated guess? you BURNED a hole in yer aluminum piston. Maybe ring lands. (thats the name for the aluminum between the ring grooves) Reading the sparkies for WET OIL will help tell you which cylinder. It could be stuck ring, thats a $10 fix with MMO or ATF and worth a try..... ..Dell

I'm thinking I did a rush poor job on the head gasket? For one thing i used the old gasket and used a head from a different engine. Didn't think it would make so much of a differance. If that is all it is I'll gladly take my punishment of doing the job over.
