3 weeks into my 8N ownership the engine is UN-Seized!
I've got the head/manifolds/valve covers off.

I've had MMO, ATF, PB Blaster and White Vinegar sitting on the rings - not all at once though....

I finally resigned myself to a Rebuild and figured I had little to lose by taking a risk(Cracked piston etc.etc...).
Using a wooden block and a small hand-sledge on the top of the piston I was pretty sure was the main culprit - I "assisted" the piston in finishing it's long-delayed down-stroke. At the bottom of the stroke I still could'nt get it to rotate further but I could see the other three pistons slightly wiggling when I rocked the tractor. That told me I was onto the right piston. I soaked all of them another two days and had the wife tow me up the driveway(The brakes worked!!)

Once I got it up to about 3 mph and popped the clutch she started spinning. WHEEE! The oil filter can started puking oil(OIL PUMP works!!!) All the valves operate but the two center-exhaust ones don't reliably pop back down(Used my fist leaning over the wheel to help them).
All the bores including the seized one look fine w/no scoring so I think I'm fine. So I need to execute Gary's valve un-sticking procedure - clean everything up and put it back together.

Thanks to everyone to the input...I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go.

nondem;

Glad it came free for ya. Just remember.....all the stuff you used to free up the engine, is now sitting in yer oil pan, and you should not run that engine, for any length of time with that in there.

Once you get the valves all good and free, and you are all done with spashing the goop away, just before ya start trying to get the engine running, CHANGE that gunky oil!!!!! :shock:
You are on the right path, to getting it to run!~!! Just take your time, and do it right.

Good luck with it, and keep us posted on the progress. Post some pix.!!!

Gary :)

Great job.. lube the cyls with some ATF,a nd the valves to and get them unstuck.. slap her together and see what comp you get.. that will tell you about the rings and valves. If over 75 on all 4.. I'd try and run it if it is not going to e a restoration..
