I've got the wifes approval to buy a little more this week so I'll have something to keep me busy next week.

I'm looking at wiring harnesses. The existing is original and the fabric is disentegrating.
Any tips on which harness to get? Some are listed as fabric covered and others not. Is fabric for authenticity or is there a practical reason?
I'm restoring the original 6v front mount system on an early 1950 8n.

nondem..... ....fabric is for sphincterly challenged tractor queens ...ie... correct for PC originality police. Surprizingly enuff, vinyl is electrically and physically BETTER than cloth covered rubber insulation. Your money, your choice.

Read the description carefully; frontmount 1-wire genny? frontmount 3-wire genny? sidemount 3-wire genny? They are ALL 6-volt genny. 12-volt alternator conversions? good luck 'cuz I know 8-ways to convert to 12-volts and they all are different. The I&T FO-4 is yer friend for wiring harness installation.

Me? I'm a certified aircraft and missile wiring harness builder and I can't build one as cheap as I can buy a vinyl harness. ($15, cheap) ..... ..Dell, retired harness builder

The fabric one says for "two-wire" genny. Is this what they call two-wire? Looks like three....Could someone offer some guidance so i get the right stuff?

Fabric is for originality people.. the regular PVC coated ones wrapped in vinyl tape work just fine as electron pipes.

Technically.. the genny can run as 2 wire.. 1=armature, 2=field. The 3rd wire is a redundant ground to make sure the painted genny shell conducts thru the painted bracket that is bolted to the painted block.

I really like the looks of the fabric covered wires on my N's, but I think the plastic would work just as well if $$$ is an issue. Regardless, a new wiring harness is money well spent on an N. (tip # 42, below) Make sure you clean all of the connections shiny clean! I think it is a lot easier to rewire an N if you remove the air cleaner canister & tool box first. And, get a new terminal block w/ the harness. They break easily ! BTDT.
