Hello,
I seem to recall a post of someone once going through the effort of making a dipstick for measuring the amount of gallons of fuel in the tank.
Anybody know the stick markings off hand?

Yes it does, to most anything you put it on....

My question is why.... LOL

I use a hammer handle, on a hammer that I keep in my toolbox, the handle is galvanized water pipe welded in the hammer, and the end is welded up on it.

I know how much my tank holds, and after dipping the handle, I can tell if it is close to 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or empty, full would be a "no brainer".

I don't remember who posted them, but I saved the info so I can make a stick later. Here they are:

Gas Gauge Measurements

1 gal = 1 1/4"
2 gal = 2 1/16"
3 gal = 2 ¾"
4 gal = 3 15/32"
5 gal = 4 3/16"
6 gal = 4 7/8"
7 gal = 5 9/16"
8 gal = 6 ¼"
9 gal = 7 3/16"
10 gal = 8 1/16"

I tried to find the original post so I could give credit where its due, but for some reason I couldn't find it.

Here's one I made.. You can see that it is laid out between the 2 and 12" marks on the yardstick.. so you can kinde do a good gustament job of drawing the lines over. Bottom line on the paint stir sticks is the bottom edge of stick.. etc.

Here are some measurements I gleaned out of the archives. not sure if these are the ones i use dor not.. but.. heck.. they should be close.. we are after all measuring gas in an old rusty tank on a 60 yr old tractor with a stick.. so it should be close enough!

Overall length 10 5/16
From the bottom to top of each mark
1 gal = 1 ¼
2 gal = 2 1/16
3 gal = 2 ¾
4 gal = 3 15/32
5 gal = 4 3/16
6 gal = 4 7/8
7 gal = 5 9/16
8 gal = 6 ¼
9 gal = 7 3/16
10 gal = 8 1/16

Wow. Now what am I goi'N to do with those 2000 or so "SHERWIN WILLIAMS"(tm) paint stirers.?? :0)

Actually, mine are made from PA oak. Will not warp!
