Along with both disks and I treated them with ospho. Someone welded a piece of pipe around the valve stem on this one. A really nice bead :)

I have 2 rims with the stem protectors, unfortunately they rusted so bad 1 has popped the tube. They were turned to the inside and made it hard to put air in them. I've got a set of hat rims to sandblast myself. The painted galvanize is still in good shape with a little surface rust in areas. May try a brass wire brush first just to see if I can save the galvanizing.

They are in nice condition. They never had CACL in them :) Plus the leaky axle seals gave them a nice coat of GL1. Did a nice job of preserving them. Fred was worth every penny I paid for him..

I saw a fellow have a welding shop to weld on 2" threaded black pipe and had pipe caps on them like that several years ago.

That old farmer didn't want to knock another valve stem off that wheel again did he.
