I went to raise the lift on my 9N and I wanted it to stop before it reached the top of the quadrant. I positioned the control well below the end of the bracket, yet the lift continued all the way to the top! HUH?????

Your 9N has "draft-control" hydraulics, not "position control", as you may be used to on other tractors.

The quadrant lever does not receive feedback from the lift as to its position, and it does not automatically maintain the lift in any position you set. If you lift the lever to the very top of the quadrant, it will maintain the lift in the fully-raised position regardless of leakage. But all other positions of the lever are either "raise" or "lower", with the movement of the lever controlling only the rate of raising or lowering. There is a "neutral" spot in the travel of the lever which is "neither raise, nor lower" (both valve ports shut), but it is not directly related to the lift position, and it will not maintain the height of the lift.
