Some good tractor news, for once!

I've been pretty fortunate this week, tractor-wise. I stumbled on an old pull-type disc for $50 - its in rough but usable shape for my needs - I don't know what make it is - I posted it over on the Implement forum to see if anyone knows what it is.

I got the 5/8" bolts on my raduis arms out relatively easilly - I soaked 'em in PB for a few days and used a BFH. I straightened the bowed radius arms using the beam/chain/bottle jack technique - it worked well, though I did flatten out a spot on one of the arms - I must have been rushing it a bit - it's a worker, though, so I can live with it.

Last night about 10:30pm I went out to work on the bolts holding the axle together - they've been soaking for about a week. I wanted to at least get them loose so that I wouldn't have to fight them when I finally got time to do the axle kingpin (planned for "later" this spring). I got all of them on the right side, but none on the left side would budge. I was able to get the grill out and raise the radiator a bit without messing with the hood or tank at all. A little manipulation with the axle and a small prybar and the old kingpin slid right out! I pulled the axle out the left side (still attached to the left wheel) and used a cold chisel to get the old (steel?) bushing out and saw that it's stamped "Ford USA". Used the old kingpin to drive in the new bushing (that gave me fits for a bit) and reassembled it all, minus the radius arms (which I'm going to prime and paint before reinstalling.) Overall, it went a LOT better than expected. I was in bed at 2:00am. I wonder if the hydraulic piston repair will go as smoothly..... ..

I hope everybody else's day is going as well as mine!

Joe

Joe - From the tales of others' experience, you lucked out with that king pin. Glad to hear it worked out so well.

I checked out your disk. Have you tried it out yet?

Colin

Joe that is good news, from my experience you are a very lucky man. I have nightmares about getting the kingpins out.
